Steven
Norman
Steve Norman began his classical ballet training
in Elgin, Illinois with Lisa and Frank Boehm. He furthered his training
by attending the Ruth Page Center for Dance in Chicago, under the
direction of Larry Long.
Steven began his professional career in 1992 as an apprentice at
Houston Ballet, and was promoted to the Corps de ballet by the years
end. In 1995 he was invited by Artistic Director Helgi Tomasson to join
the San Francisco Ballet.
While dancing with the San Francisco Ballet he had the opportunity to
work with many of the world’s most renowned choreographers:
Mark Morris, Paul Taylor, William Forsythe, Peter Martins, Christopher
Wheeldon, Stanton Welch, James Kudelka, Lar Lubovitch, Jiri Kylian,
Christopher Bruce, Val Caniparoli, and Helgi Tomasson.
During his thirteen year career with the San Francisco Ballet he had
the opportunity to dance many soloist roles. Of these roles, the most
memorable for him include Hilarion and Pas de Cinq in Tomasson’s
Giselle, Snow Prince, Lead Russian, Arabian Prince, and Spanish in
Tomasson’s Nutcracker, and soloist roles in George
Balanchine’s Symphony in Three Movements, Symphony in C,
Diamonds, Theme and Variations, and The Four Temperaments.
He has performed in cities throughout the world. These include New
York, Washington DC, London, Paris, Athens, Edinburgh, Reykjavik,
Belfast, Nervi, Coppenhagen, Madrid, Bilboa, and Barcelona.
Is currently on faculty at NIU “ College of Visual and Performing
Arts”.
